Would Ethan Allen retreat? I think not…
As much as I was hoping to be done blogging on this, as the non-blog media will now be taking the reins on this soon, I have a bit more to report on the Second Vermont Republic brouhaha. They had some event scheduled at the Langdon St. Cafe in Montpelier to commemorate the ‘day of infamy’ when Vermont joined the union. Well, it appears they’ve moved it.
What they’re not telling you is the reason it’s moving to the cemetery is not merely because of the symbolic significance of it being the resting place of Ethan Allen. Apparently, due to the fact that the word is out on the SVR-Neo-Confederacy link (and no, I don’t just mean ‘web link’ as they’d like you to think; I mean real human links), and that many people are not too pleased about it, the reliable word I’ve heard is that SVR considers an appearance at LSC too much of a ‘risk’ (as in ‘risk’ of people confronting them head-on about the controversy). A cemetery is ideal, because the dead don’t ask questions. Gotta be able to suit up the Ethan Allen costume and keep up the facade… move along, nothing to see here. Sounds more like something Bush would do than Ethan Allen, eh? And of course, be prepared for a denial of the motivation behind the relocation. Like everything else in this controversy with these people, denial ain’t just that river in Egypt.
So, anyways, if you’re one of the pissed with questions, don’t let the change in venue stop you. It’s at Green Mount Cemetery on Colchester Ave. in Burlington, Sunday Mar. 4th at 2 pm. Show up. Ask questions. And then ask some more.
