McCain gets an iPhone, finally.
Well, sort of. I’m sure he’ll be getting an Atari 2600 pretty soon to pass the time away on the Straight Talk Express.

Ya’d think that by now, nothing coming out of the mouths of the deluded Godidiots would even phase me. You’re probably right. But they’re still worth a mention just becuse they’re so ridiculous. The latest is over at Ethics Daily, a Baptist site. It’s some of the most sexist things I’ve read in many a fortnight. Apparently, wives get abused because they rebel against their husband’s God-given authority:
Bruce Ware, professor of Christian theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., said women desire to have their own way instead of submitting to their husbands because of sin.
“And husbands on their parts, because they’re sinners, now respond to that threat to their authority either by being abusive, which is of course one of the ways men can respond when their authority is challenged–or, more commonly, to become passive, acquiescent, and simply not asserting the leadership they ought to as men in their homes and in churches,” Ware said from the pulpit of Denton Bible Church in Denton, Texas.
Well, then.
Ware offered 10 reasons “for affirming male headship in the created order.” They include that man was created first and that woman was created “out of” Adam in order to be his “helper.” Even though the woman sinned first, Ware said, God came to Adam and held him primarily responsible for failure to exercise his God-given authority.
When Jenni gets home from work today, I’m going to run this by her, that she’s my “helper”, and gawdammit, the Lawd says you better go get me a beer, woman. Now. And after I do, I’m sure I’ll look even worse that that zombie pic a few posts down.

Somewhere in Rome, a pimp named Silky is trying to find out who took his hat.
Thanks to Caroline for the above pic.
Off to the backpatting-fest known as the Blogger BBQ shortly. I also cleaned up the “FIlm Links” on the blogroll, taking off a few Spaghetti Western sites (which if you really need to get to, you can get to from my Spaghetti Western site, Fistful of Pasta), and added Eat My Brains, a horror movie site.
I really need to start listening to some younger bands…
From Yesworld…
Legendary rock band Yes announced today that the group will unfortunately be canceling their 2008 40th Anniversary Tour. The 26-city tour was scheduled to kick off in Quebec next month and run through the summer…Yes frontman and founding member Jon Anderson was admitted to the hospital last month after suffering a severe asthma attack. He has now been diagnosed with acute respiratory failure and was told by doctors this weekend that he needs to rest and not work for a period of at least six months or suffer further health complications.
Sigh… I had good tickets and everything. Oh, well.

I suppose I could or should make some reference to McCain here, but I won’t.
Go get zombified here.

First, John McCain was comparing Obama to William Jennings Bryan, a presidential candidate from over a century ago. In keeping with his steadfast efforts to close the generational gap, McCain has now compared Obama, when speaking of energy policy, to Dr. No:
Brian Rogers, a spokesman for the McCain campaign, accused Mr. Obama of being the “Dr. No” of energy security in a conference call with reporters on Tuesday. Mr. Rogers criticized Mr. Obama for “saying no” to oil exploration, a summer gas tax holiday, expanded investment in nuclear energy and a $300 million incentive to build a better car battery — all proposals that Mr. McCain has floated recently.
Dr. No was the first James Bond film. From 1962. At this rate, by the end of the campaign, McCain should be making cultural references like “Where’s the beef?”, ensuring that nobody born after 1980 has a clue what the hell he’s talking about.

Must watch. It’s scary stuff. It’s not just about the telcom immunity.
“That’s a farce and it’s political cover,” Feingold said, “Anybody who claims this is an okay bill, I really question if they’ve even read it.”
Are you listening, Senator Leahy?
Call the senator and let him know that voting against it is not enough. It needs to be stopped.

I called earlier and they said they’ve been getting a lot of calls about this. Good.

Seriously, why does anyone listen to this guy, who’s been wrong about just about everything he’s ever said, whose bullshit and bad judgement is only rivaled by Bill Kristol? Via Carpetbagger:
Karl Rove has made it clear on multiple occasions that he actively dislikes Barack Obama — if there’s a more helpful testament to the strength of Obama’s character, it doesn’t come to mind — and he continues to make his criticisms of the Democratic candidate more and more personal.
ABC News’ Christianne Klein reports that at a breakfast with Republican insiders at the Capitol Hill Club this morning, former White House senior aide Karl Rove referred to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, as “coolly arrogant.”
“Even if you never met him, you know this guy,” Rove said, per Christianne Klein. “He’s the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by.”
Karl Rove? Even if you never met him, you know this guy. When he wasn’t being shoved around by the rich country club kids who kept him around as the punching bag, and repeatedly getting rejected by those same beautiful dates that Obama was getting “at the country club”, he was back in his dorm room jacking himself off into a frenzy to pictures of Trish Nixon, making snide comments about what she could do with Papa Nixon’s dog, Checkers, and a jar of peanut butter…
That would explain a lot.

Like many of you, I’m still steaming over the Dem rollover on FISA. Now, none of our delegation is supporting it (nor, might I add, doing anything bold to throw a wrench in the works), but there’s something in Sen. Leahy’s statement that’s really infuriating (emphasis mine):
“With respect to the surveillance authorities, I believe the bill represents an improvement over the flawed legislation passed the Senate earlier this year. I applaud Representative Hoyer and Senator Rockefeller for their diligent work in negotiating this package. They added protections to the surveillance authorities that bring it closer to the bill the Senate Judiciary Committee reported last year. If the bill passes, I will work with the next administration to make additional improvements.
“I will continue to work to protect all Americans from the Bush-Cheney administration’s roll back of civil liberties of Americans and disregard for the rule of law. As the Supreme Court noted last week, ‘security subsists, too, in fidelity to freedom’s first principles.’ We can protect our security while honoring American values and respecting our freedoms.”
Two things: the only “diligent work” Hoyer and Rockefeller have done is to”diligently work” to do the bidding of the telcoms, especially Rockefeller. Second, if Leahy is serious about “protecting our civil liberties”, why isn’t he doing more anything to stop this?
This bill simply did not need to happen. FISA is fine without the telcom immunity, and they owe this president, who is less liked than a thawing dog turd on a warm Vermont March morning - nothing. Nada. And for those still inexplicably afraid of being labeled “soft on terror”… grow a spine. The public doesn’t want telcom immunity, and you have nothing to lose opposing it, except, perhaps that yummy telcom money.
Very disappointing, Senator. Would it be that hard to go the extra mile and take a bold stance? What ever happened to “terrifying” Bush?
Let him know about it: (802) 863-2525
