Something different for y’all…

The Commodores. And they’re right… beer DOES make it good (don’t know if Schlitz does, however).

Have a great weekend. And gawdammit, make sure you go vote next Tuesday, or vote Wednesday if you’re a Republican.

There’s really nothing left to do but mock McCain at this point, is there?

There’s a cool little gallery of variations of the “tongue” over here.

Something else Obama needs to do…

is to get out there now and bring attention to the upcoming last-blitz of Bush deregulation we’re about to see:

Two other rules nearing completion would ease limits on pollution from power plants, a major energy industry goal for the past eight years that is strenuously opposed by Democratic lawmakers and environmental groups.

One rule, being pursued over some opposition within the Environmental Protection Agency, would allow current emissions at a power plant to match the highest levels produced by that plant, overturning a rule that more strictly limits such emission increases. According to the EPA’s estimate, it would allow millions of tons of additional carbon dioxide into the atmosphere annually, worsening global warming.

A related regulation would ease limits on emissions from coal-fired power plants near national parks.

A third rule would allow increased emissions from oil refineries, chemical factories and other industrial plants with complex manufacturing operations.

These rules “will force Americans to choke on dirtier air for years to come, unless Congress or the new administration reverses these eleventh-hour abuses,” said lawyer John Walke of the Natural Resources Defense Council.

As the article says, it may be hard to undo some of these, but perhaps if Obama made a stink over it, and how he will work hord to undo some of these, it might make them back off. Meh… probably not.

Apparently Palin’s and not-Joe the not-Plumber aren’t the only serious mental defects out there shilling for McCain. Who the hell decided to let this caveman speak and thought it was a good idea?

Dumb All Over: The wingnuts

Just a quick blast here for you, two things that are just waaaaay out there. Apparently, Obama’s not who you think he is.. he’s really the love-child of Malcom X. Now, how cool would that one be if it were actually true? I’d probably look at that as a plus. That’s what’s funny about all these stupid “Obama is a radical” rumors. He’s not. It’d be sorta nice if he was.

Next up (and only click on this one if you wanna read a ridiculously long pdf)…“An Examination of Obama’s Use of Hidden Hypnosis Techniques in His Speeches.”

Hat tip to Balloon Juice for both of those nuggets.

The 1,000th Post: Farting is good for you

Ok, this is the 1,000th post on FBC. Hard to believe. For those of you who have read many of the other 999, a hearty thank you goes out to you.

Anyways, I wanted to make sure that this very special post was of something of major substance: research is showing that farting lowers blood pressure:

The new research found that cells lining mice’s blood vessels naturally make the gas and this action can help keep the rodents’ blood pressure low by relaxing the blood vessels to prevent hypertension (high blood pressure). This gas is “no doubt” produced in cells lining human blood vessels too, the researchers said.

“Now that we know hydrogen sulfide’s role in regulating blood pressure, it may be possible to design drug therapies that enhance its formation as an alternative to the current methods of treatment for hypertension,” said Johns Hopkins neuroscientist Solomon H. Snyder, M.D., a co-author of the study detailed in the Oct. 24th issue of the journal Science.

Design drug therapies? Beantex? Pootacor? Fartzac? Heck, eat two bowls of beans and call me in the morning. Needless to say, all of the living beings in our household (especially the dogs) are more than likely quite healthy in this regard.

From the Grindhouse: Black Caesar

Now this one here is classic blaxploitation fare, starring Fred Williamson (who’s probably starred in more craptacular films than any other living person) as a gangster who takes on (who else?) the Italians. It’s always the Italians in these films. James Brown did a fantastic soundtrack for this film, although you don’t hear it in the trailer. What you do hear, a bit in the beginning and moreso about halfway through, is an amazingly blatant ripoff of Hendrix’s Purple Haze. They just moved a few notes around or something. Unlike a lot of others, this film is easy to find, it’s even on Netflix. Highly recommended (note that I say that in regards to these kinds of films - don’t come bitching to me when you find it’s not The English Patient or Raiders of the Lost Ark).

More schadenfreude

That piece of shit Joe Lieberman is going down. Well, actually, he is probably going to lose his committee chairmanship for going down on John McCain so much. From The Hill:

Lieberman, a former Democrat who supports Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president, is likely to lose his gavel on the Homeland Security Committee he has chaired since January 2007, say the sources who see him being replaced by Sen. Daniel Akaka (Hawaii), the committee’s third-ranking Democrat.

Lieberman spokesman Marshall Witmann dismissed the speculation, saying Lieberman “is focused on doing all he can to elect John McCain as president rather than post-election Washington politics.”

Good, Joe, you keep doing that. It’ll bank you a lot of clout in the upcoming session, I’m sure. With who, I don’t know, but it ain’t gonna be pretty. Maybe you can go bomb Iran yourself, singlehandedly. Take McCain with you, I’m sure you’ll have lots of great things to reminisce over.

There’s some not-good-news in there too, as there’s talk of FISA-sellout-telcom-hack Jay Rockefeller getting control of the Commerce Committee, where he will undoubtedly direct a lot of commerce to those telcoms who sold out the country. A real man of principle, that Jay.

More on that McCain media whine

0
Digg it

As I’ve mentioned recently, there’s been some whining about the media favoring Obama over McCain, and indeed, the Obama coverage is more positive. But it’s because the two different campaigns are like night and day… one is extremely well-organized, focused, and ideally, appealing to peoples’ better nature. The other is floundering, ever-shifting, increasingly negative, pathetic and desperate, and is appealing to the xenophobic, anti-intellectual anti-progress crowd. How is that positive?

Anyways, have a look at John F. Harris & Jim Vandehei’s Why McCain is Getting Hosed in the Press over at Politico today:

There have been moments in the general election when the one-sidedness of our site — when nearly every story was some variation on how poorly McCain was doing or how well Barack Obama was faring — has made us cringe.

As it happens, McCain’s campaign is going quite poorly and Obama’s is going well. Imposing artificial balance on this reality would be a bias of its own.

He’s running a shitty campaign and he and Bible Spice like to lie. A lot. They say things that assume their audience is stupid and reactionary, which seems to prove itself true, time and time again. That’s not saying Obama has been straight up about everything (he most certainly hasn’t), but there’s no way to put a shine on the sheer amount of bullshit and bad judgement coming out of the McCain campaign, and it’s a stark contrast to the Obama campaign. I have a lot of reservations about Obama, but since I’ve been following politics closely over the last 15 years, I’ve never seen a campaign run this well on many levels. It’s astounding, actually. There’s the occasional hiccup, but afterwards, he seems to come out of it even stronger than before.
