Still here? Life is soooper busy this week, some good things in the works, though. But since you’re here, I just gotta give you something…

Comedian Bill Maher has a docu-comedy out now, which definitely looks worth seeing… It’s called Religulous.

More anti-brains stuff from wingers.., this time it’s about how Obama pronounces Pakistan (correctly, BTW):

The National Review’s Mark Stein, for example, said that Obama prefers the “exotic pronunciation.” He added, “[O]ne thing I like about Sarah Palin is the way she says ‘Eye-raq’.”

This came after the National Review’s Kathryn Jean Lopez posted an email that argued, “[N]o one in flyover country says Pock-i-stahn. It’s annoying.”

Hunter at Big Evil Orange about Palin:

Yeah, she’s firing up the wingnut base. Who cares. The wingnut base is the easiest group of people on the planet to fire up. They get fired up when they think gays might steal their marriages. They get fired up when they have to press “one” for English. They get fired up when some black guy gets all uppity and runs for president. They get fired up when their sub-sub-sub-version of Christianity isn’t the dominant religious ideal of the nation. Holding Sarah Palin in front of them is like teasing a dog through a fence, but that’s about it.

Also, for those of you in the Montpelier area, I was on Michal Abadi’s VTBlogosphere TV on the ORCA public access channel the other day. It will be showing Mon. Oct 13th at 7:30pm, Tues. Oct 14th at 12AM and 1pm, and Sat. Oct 18th at 3:30pm. I’m not sure what the channel number is but I’ll let you know when I get it. I’ll also get the Youtubes up here soon. Tune in, why dontcha?

I don’t think it matters, but the pronunciation eye-rack is nonsense. The name is taken directly from Arabic, the first letter of the word is a ['ain], which is pronounced [ee] , occasionally [aa], so the pronunciation is ee-raak, or aa-raak

Both A’s in pAkistAn are long, so the way to pronounce it, if you want to stay close to how the local people pronounce is [Paa-kis-taan]; however when they speak English, most Pakistani don’t make those sounds very long, especially the first A (it sounds more like the ‘a’ in ‘pack’

I think the point if the Eye-rack nonsense (as well as ‘nukular”) ties into that anti-intellectualism the Republicans are so fond of… it’s okay for our leaders to speak like inarticulate hicks.. they must somehow be like the “common man” in that regard or something.
