Specter looming

It’s really funny how blatantly obvious Sen. Specter’s switch was one solely for political preservation. Surprising?  No, just funny. There’s a bunch of different scenarios out there for 2010, but I hope he gets primaried and loses. Same with Sen. Collins or Snowe. Let ‘em come over, then get rid of ‘em, as the last thing we need is more conservadems. And as I was thinking, for those who say there needs to be some sort of brake on unfettered Dem power, I agree with you. I just don’t want that brake to be from the bonafide nutsos such as Boehner, Cantor and Bachmann. It’d be nice to have some sane opposition, perhaps even from the left, if possible. But ultimately, watching these people sink lower and lower is the gemstone found in the turd known as Arlen Specter. And this fact:

But there remains a divide within the party about how best to press forward. That was evident in the Pew Center poll, which said the majority of Republicans polled wanted the GOP to move further to the right.

Keep going further right wingnuts, do us all a favor and make yourself about as politically relevant as the Greens or the Constitution Party.

Bonus quote from Vanity Fair’s James Wolcott that sums it up nicely:

Many of them appear defiantly resigned to the Republican Party becoming a regional bastion of true believers, the Branch Davidian compound of the Confederate Jesus. To those, however, who still share the same sky as those in the real world and think that the best escape route out of minority status and possible extinction is to win elections (crazy, I know), the Specter defection is a disaster

Question for the geeks out there

Ok, here’s one for the tech savvy. Is there a device out there that would essentially let you hook up a keyboard, mouse and monitor somewhere far away from the computer? It’d be nice to have access to one computer from different points in the house, say if I want to go into the studio room and record, or go down to the living room to watch a movie.

UPDATED: It’s a reverse KVM.

Specter to GOP: Fuck you!

Well, this is good news. Arlen Specter just left the dead-end, know-nothing party of teabagging, torture and toilet stalls, stating that the party has essentially gone batshit insane, something most of us thinking people figured out a long time ago. Now, Specter’s hardly a bastion of progressivism, but anything that diminishes the power of the GOP even a little bit is still a good thing. Expect tons of vile rhetoric from right blogistan. Their tiny, empty heads are gonna explode over this one. Where’s Joe the Plumber for some brilliant commentary when you need him?

Tired Tuesday

My gawd, I still haven’t recovered from this weekend. I am utterly useless today. I don’t even have the energy to mock the latest faux right-wing outrage (the “Chavez handshake’). It’s funny, I read somewhere this morning that all this petty harping on the stupidest shit imaginable by the right-wing about Obama somehow showing “weakness” is really a sign of their own weaknesses, in that the best they can come up with is these stupid non-issues because they have nothing substantive to offer. They have no credible foreign policy to speak of at this point, seeing how well the professional wrestling approach they’ve pushed for the last 8 years just ain’t so sexy anymore. Or credibility on just about anything else at this point.

The first Flight Night Badfilm night went off without a hitch. Attendance was about what I expected for the first time, but that’ll grow. It was a learning experience. We made way too much popcorn, that’s for sure, and have enough concessions for at least the next three or four events, minimum.

Anyways, if you were there and are reading this, thanks for coming. We’re hoping this is the start of something special.

Friday Nite Funk: Willie Hutch

Well, in honor of our big blax show in Montpelier tomorrow night, here’s the title track to Foxy Brown, sung by R&B great, Willie Hutch. It’s got one of those non-stop flowing basslines that I love so much. Hope y’all can make it tomorrow. Have a great weekend.

Flight Night: First Flight – Three The Hard Way

flight-night-1

(click on the poster for larger image)

Ok, it’s finally here, people. This Saturday, April 18th, at the Lamb Abbey in Montpelier. I don’t have much to say that the poster and the below audio spot won’t tell you, but I’d just want to add that this is our first one, so we need a good turnout if this is gonna continue. We’re definitely bringing something unique to Vermont, for better or worse. Hopefully it won’t cause too much damage. There’s something in the evening guaranteed to offend everyone, so please come and have a blast. And if I don’t know you, make sure you come up and lemme know you saw it here on FBC. Thanks.

In a nutshell…

Well, I just got home, and I’m completely underwhelmed by the masses of almost hundreds at the teabaggin’ parties across the nation. A whopping 0.08% of the population of Boston managed to crawl out of the sewers of the city. Real mass movement. I’m scared, howzabout you?

Word is the VT one was “well attended”, which probably means every right-wingnut in the state was there. Thankfully, we don’t have too many up in these parts. Will we ever see such a gathering of deluded, misguided folks again? Don’t hold yer breath, although if Glenn Beck’s ratings slip, I’m sure he’ll think of some new gimmick that plays on the sesne of perpetual victimhood these people have.

As I surf around, there’s a plethora, I tells ya’, a plethora of bad signs and dumb, slogans (I’d still love to know how many of these people can actually define “socialism”). This one sums it up in a nutshell, from the overwhelming crowd of 300 in S.F….

“Douche bag” party woulda been more appropriate.

Bonus thought, from John Cole:

You know what really irritates me about the tea parties? The basic fact that if right now, it were President John McCain and not President Obama, and nothing else had changed, these tea parties wouldn’t exist. You know it, I know it, and even the teabaggers know it. It is just such transparent bullshit that it is offensive. The most these guys ever did during the last lost eight years was put a limp Porkbusters logo on their website, but now that we have President Malcom X George McGovern Shabazz, they are freaking out like there is no tomorrow. So absurd.

New NOM ad

A parody, that is, of that now famous-because-it’s-so-pathetic antigay ad that made the rounds last week. Enjoy:
