Newsweek calls out Oprah’s pseudoscientific bullshit
It’s so nice to have that rare occasion where a mainstream media outlet actually shows a bit of skepticism, even moreso when it’s tackling pseudoscientific bullshit. As you skeptics probably know, Oprah Winfrey has contributed immensely to the mainstreaming of bullshit quackery. I touched upon theis briefly a few years back in one of my most linked-to posts, The Secret: New Age Stupidity and the ‘Law’ of Attraction.
Here’s the kind of people Oprah relies on for “advice”.. C-list actress Suzanne Somers:
Each morning, the 62-year-old actress and self-help author rubs a potent estrogen cream into the skin on her arm. She smears progesterone on her other arm two weeks a month. And once a day, she uses a syringe to inject estrogen directly into her vagina. The idea is to use these unregulated “bio-identical” hormones to restore her levels back to what they were when she was in her 30s, thus fooling her body into thinking she’s a younger woman.
And people lap this shit up. Oprah says she doesn’t “endorse” the suff, but she sure does her best to lend it credibility. For a smart successful woman, she’s quite the idiot. Go figure. Have a look, it’s here.

Well…smearing stuff all over your body could turn into a 2010 campaign spin. Along with eating tarantulas. We can only hope.

Wasn’t it her who held the big campaign rally for Obama in NH. Some analysts are giving her credit for saying the campaign. It really shows how gullible people really are…

Eh, poor analogy. Big leap between injecting your vagina with estrogen daily and supporting a mainstream presidential candidate.

False hope equals false hope, JD.

Well, out in radical-land that may hold some credence but here in the real world, there were millions of people who didn’t buy into the hope nonsense, who just simply didn’t want John McCain to be president. It’s quite simple, really.

Of course, and some people didn’t want to put a syringe in their pussies. But they did because it was better than putting John McCain there. Simple, indeed.

Jd, The media campaign of Obama was one giant marketing dupe and Oprah was part of that charade. So what do we have now. Expanded wars, more corporate raiding of the treasury, Health Care Industry writing Health Care “Reform” legislation”, and oh yeah your friend Hilary Clinton has more power than ever as Secretary of State. Now with the Obama charade, the left has been lulled to sleep under an illusion of change that might as well be the same as believing in injecting a syringe into a vagina.

And Anthony Pollina was a viable candidate, Robb, right? How’d that one work out for you?
Seriously. you self-appointed “radicals” are like a fucking broken record at this point. Come up with some new cliches, already. You go with this baseless assertion that anyone who voted for Obama must be an idiot or the enemy.
Point 1 – my “friend” HRC? When have I ever expressed any sort of support for Hillary? I’d diss her every chance I got.
Point 2 – Who has been “lulled” under and illusion of change? Me? Can you point out where? Jeezus, just about every Obama piece I’ve ever written at GMD has been critical, not supportive. The Kos kids? The left isn’t complaining about Obama? What reality are you living in, Robb?
See, I didn’t buy into the hope/change nonsense, so I’m your wrong target. I simply did not want a Republican president. Period. Not once have you even considered why that is important, as you’re so blinded by your “exactly the same” bullshit. One is a lot better than the other. Not to the extent that he should be, of course, but sometimes I think you forget how backwards and conservative this country is as a whole. Like I said, if you think things are bad now, how do you think it would be under melanoma McCain and Caribou Barbie?
So either you think stopping a Republican president is not important, in which case, this conversation is done, or you think it is, but you offered no viable solution. We’re not all of a sudden gonna have Department of Peace moonbeam bullshit overnight.

Go easy on him, Rob. Obama is his Jesus.
Remember, he traveled to the promise land to stand below him.
But, seriously, I think he’s feeling a bit defensive. But, like most liberals, they’d rather attack those to their left than risk rocking their love boat.
He’ll get active again in four years with something like: “Just give him four more years.” Yawn.

Ah, Moike, I can always count on you for a good, hopelessly unoriginal, predictable laugh. Let’s beer soon, I can tell you about my upcoming divorce, then we can really laugh about something.

Jd,
I was being sarcastic with Hilary CLinton, I know you don’t like her. So if Barrack Obama is so benign then how did he ever appoint HC to one of the most powerful positions in world. Got to get you wondering were his loyalties stand.
As for Dept. of Peace, I personally think that it is a lousy idea, because the liberal’s and conservatives will work hand and hand in creating a war=peace mentality. We already live in a Orwellian society, do we need more of it.
Now for Vt, I see that the Dems here needed to get more courage and to take a stand agianst Douglas. Symington never offered anything of that, and because of Pollina’s campaign I think the Dems have at least been forced to taking a stronger position against Douglas. At least now they are using the “super-majority” . But by caving into the moderate/conservative agenda all you do is weeken your message before you even start, as we have with Obama. So I ask, does War=peace ?
Jd. Go have a beer and enjoy life…

But when have I caved in to the moderate/conservative agenda, Robb? Have you ever known me to say it’s ok when Obama does? Do you give him porps when he does something right? Or are you too pure to do that kind of nuance?

“and oh yeah your friend Hilary Clinton has more power than ever as Secretary of State.”
LOL…just for the record, Hillary’s my friend, not JD’s…for sure…
Also, “Expanded wars”?? Yea, to fight the people that actually attacked us on 9/11. You remember them…Al-Qaeda & their buddies in the the Taliban.
“And Anthony Pollina was a viable candidate, Robb, right? How’d that one work out for you?”
Pretty well, considering that he beat the horrible candidate that was Symington.
“So if Barrack Obama is so benign then how did he ever appoint HC to one of the most powerful positions in world.”
Well, some would call it a bold political move to bring one of his potential rivals into the fold so that she couldn’t criticize him in public. Heck, he just sent one of the supposed “up & coming” GOP Governors literally to China to get rid of him. I, for one, thought that appointing Clinton to his Cabinet was a mistake, but I’m willing to be proven wrong.
