About that SOTU

Didn’t watch it, but I did read it. Did enjoy Alito mouthing “That’s not true’.” What a pissy, little bitch.

Of course, I’m still mildly amused at the reaction from the Koskids, some of them are feeling rather inspired again. Not me, I’ve seen this one too many times… O’s polls go down, he makes a nice speech that sounds promising, gets a bump, and then continues to do almost nothing but sit on his hands. And then another speech, rinse, spit, repeat.

Obama: “We don’t quit. I don’t quit.’”

Yeah, well, he doesn’t fight, either.

We’re now stuck between choosing a party that is thoroughly unqualified to govern and a party that is criminally insane and sociopathic. Great choices.

Well, those “great choices” show you just how competent the Private Corporate Sector (that rules this country) is.   They’ve got us fucked both ways.
What we need is some beloved filthy rich celebrity (actor, singer?) with good politics to run on a Third Party–the “They Can’t Assassinate Me” Party.  America needs better entertainment.

At least we’re not stuck between choosing a party that is criminally unqualified to govern and a party that is thoroughly insane and sociopathic. I think. Or not. What did you say again?

Does this mean you guys aren’t flying to Ohio to see him speak? Or did you already misplace your pom-poms? Either way, welcome to the club. Some of us just got off a bit cheaper….

  • JD Ryan Says:

C’mon, Mike, that all you got? You’re not even trying. Besides, there is NOTHING that could get me into Ohio. Nothing.
Odum, you put it better than I did.

  • Chanman Says:

Naturally, you forgot to mention that the “pissy little bitch” was correct in his assertion.

  • JD Ryan Says:

    Was he?  Odd, how so?
Funny how I don’t hear you screaming “ACTIVIST JUDGES!!!!”
You support the notion of corporate personhood, too?

  • Chanman Says:

So disappointing to see you turn to tired talking points about corporate free speech.
Why would I scream at “Activist Judges” for upholding the First Amendment?
I don’t hear you screaming for corporations like NBC, ABC, CBS, New York Times, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, et. al. to shut the hell up 60 or 30 days before an election like the FEC did to Citizens United.  I guess some corporations count more than others (those with which you are more likely to agree, apparently).
The people screaming about this SCOTUS decision were all giddy about upholding corporate free speech when the same court ruled in Ashcroft vs. Free Speech Coalition that CORPORATIONS who make pornography were free to produce child porn as long as the actors were virtual and not real.
And these same people would scream if the 30-60 day rule were applied to media corporations that I previously mentioned.
Instead of dismissing Alito as a “pissy little bitch,” perhaps you should do your own homework and explain why he was incorrect.  That’s the problem with your tactics: you’re so busy coming up with new ways to insult people that you forget to actually make a point.  I know that’s easy to do when you live in an echo chamber like Vermont.

  • JD Ryan Says:

Actually, I have been consistent; I don’t see where any corporation has First Amendment rights, as they are not people. As to the Ashcroft case, I have mixed feelings on the ruling, but I don’t agree those corps had a right to file it as a breach of the the 1st Amendment. You may be fine with corporations having the same rights as you. I’m not, regardless of whose side they are supposedly on at the moment.

So, in the interests of clarity over agreement, I honestly want to know: do you believe that the federal government should have the power to regulate the content of  political advertisements (such as mentioning a candidate’s name) 30 days before a primary and 60 days before a general election?  This is, after all, the crux of the Citizens United case.  They wanted to put out a negative film about Hillary Clinton, and the FEC stopped them from doing so.  Are you comfortable with that?
