Science and the Art of Language

When discussing the ‘intelligent design’ debate, one idea I’ve beaten to death is that scientists have a looooooooooooooooooong way to go in explaining and clarifying science and its methods to the layman. It would go a long way to diffusing the mistrusted ‘ivory tower’ elitist image that so many people have regarding scientists. For a great example of how this should be done, read Dr. Penny Higgins’ article “Why Intelligent Design is not Science and therefore, Should Not Be Taught in a Science Curriculum”

Clear, plain language. No condescending tone, a la Dawkins. But most importantly, not ‘dumbed down’ either. Give it a read.
