Teabagging… some numbers (UPDATED)

Sarah Mann has the goods in regards to the teabaggery if you’re into nubers and such, here.

UPDATE: There’s a massive conversation in the comments between me and a conservative reader, Chanman. Please join in.

In a nutshell…

Well, I just got home, and I’m completely underwhelmed by the masses of almost hundreds at the teabaggin’ parties across the nation. A whopping 0.08% of the population of Boston managed to crawl out of the sewers of the city. Real mass movement. I’m scared, howzabout you?

Word is the VT one was “well attended”, which probably means every right-wingnut in the state was there. Thankfully, we don’t have too many up in these parts. Will we ever see such a gathering of deluded, misguided folks again? Don’t hold yer breath, although if Glenn Beck’s ratings slip, I’m sure he’ll think of some new gimmick that plays on the sesne of perpetual victimhood these people have.

As I surf around, there’s a plethora, I tells ya’, a plethora of bad signs and dumb, slogans (I’d still love to know how many of these people can actually define “socialism”). This one sums it up in a nutshell, from the overwhelming crowd of 300 in S.F….

“Douche bag” party woulda been more appropriate.

Bonus thought, from John Cole:

You know what really irritates me about the tea parties? The basic fact that if right now, it were President John McCain and not President Obama, and nothing else had changed, these tea parties wouldn’t exist. You know it, I know it, and even the teabaggers know it. It is just such transparent bullshit that it is offensive. The most these guys ever did during the last lost eight years was put a limp Porkbusters logo on their website, but now that we have President Malcom X George McGovern Shabazz, they are freaking out like there is no tomorrow. So absurd.

McCain is losing it. Seriously.

I can’t help but wonder if this latest stunt (and that’s exactly what it is) by Pappy McCain (“canceling the debate”) is really the beginning of the end, like jumping off of the Titanic or something. Not to be a concern troll, becuse anything that improves his odds of losing is undoubtedly a good thing, but jeezuz, this is stupid by any stretch of the imagination. It boggles the mind. Obama should go to the debate anyways and debate a picture of McCain (like Ed Flanagan did with his run against Jim Jeffords years ago, and yes, I know, he lost). It’d look like this:

UPDATE: John Cole knows why:

McCain’s entire campaign is composed of lobbyists, and they need to be in Washington to get their cut of the $700 billion. They can’t miss this shot at the trough.
