Here’s something Jenni and I have been digging on a lot lately, The Mojo Project, a reather large funky ensemble from Barcelona, Spain, of all places. Funk, dance grooves, dejay stuff, electronica, quite a diverse set. First a video for a smoov-groove called Could You:
This second one has a sort of Spanish-reggae mix going on… No More Crying:
Yeah, I know, it’s been a while. Time for some Brothers Johnson. Not really much of a video, so just turn this one up and go about yer business… Have a great weekend. Get the Funk Outta my Face!
I know, it’s Saturday. I put this together last week, forgot to post it, and forgot again last night, so here’s your belated dose of booty-shakin’ funky goodness. Sho’ nuf.
George Clinton and his crazy-ass mofo’s doin’ the Mothership Connection and Swing Down in ’76. Have a great weekend, people.
Straight outa Oakland, baby! Much of my personal bass playing style is undoubtedly in no small part influenced by TOP bassist Rocco Prestia. I remember hearing him for the first time and saying “THAT’S what I wanna do!” They’ve been through some changes over the years, some good and some not-so good, but over the past few years they seem to have really hit their stride again. Enjoy, and have a good weekend!
I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with EWF; I’m not too fond of the ballady or later-era slick stuff, but whatever they did, they were quite musical, and when they funked it up, they were one of the best. Here’s three lesser-known live goodies:
FINALLY.. there’s some Mandrill vids up on Youtube. They weren’t a household name like P-Funk or Sly and the Family Stone, and didn’t reach quite the audience or popularity that those bands did, mostly because much of their music wasn’t as commercial. They’ve been sampled by quite a few hip-hop artists, as well. Here’s three nuggets for you.
The first is just a vid someone put together with the studio track of “Mango Meat ” in the background. Two live ones below the jump.
For those of you living in VT, I heartily recommend the Independence Day celebration in Montpelier on July 3rd. The town’s got a great buzz going on, lots of good vibes and food, and if you go this time, an added bonus… you can come hear the new funk project I’m in, called Lingo Mungo. I’ll be playing with some of central VT’s best musicians right after the fireworks (9:30-ish) at the Langdon St. Cafe in Montpelier. A splendid time is guaranteed for all, and if you saw this on the blog, make sure you say hi if you stop by (I’m the bassist, in case you were wondering).
